Feature Ceilings: Bringing Architectural Ambition to Life at Sky Suites Sydney

At Sky Suites, 300 Kent Street Sydney, europanel was engaged to help realise one of the project’s most distinctive architectural features: a sculptural blade ceiling within the indoor pool area, designed by Koichi Takada Architects. The feature was intended to create a striking visual experience while performing reliably in a high-humidity aquatic environment, presenting a level of complexity beyond the capabilities of traditional joinery solutions.

To bring the design to life, europanel developed a fully engineered ceiling system that balanced architectural intent with long-term performance requirements. Rather than relying on conventional timber or MDF substrates, the blade elements were fabricated from a polyurethane-coated polymer material selected for its durability, moisture resistance and ability to maintain the precise form and finish demanded by the design. A custom stainless steel suspension system was then engineered to provide the structural support, corrosion resistance and longevity essential for a suspended feature in a pool environment.

Working from concept development through to shop drawings, fabrication, supply and installation, europanel delivered a complete end-to-end solution. The result is a dramatic and sculptural ceiling feature that captures the original architectural vision while meeting the practical demands of construction, maintenance and ongoing exposure to humidity.

Sky Suites demonstrates europanel’s strength in turning ambitious architectural concepts into buildable, durable realities, combining innovative materials, technical expertise and precision installation to deliver exceptional outcomes in even the most demanding environments.
