Customisable feature ceilings | Translating complex design into practical systems

Europanel’s feature ceiling offering is built around customisation, allowing architects and designers to translate complex design intent into practical, buildable acoustic ceiling systems.

For our 180 George Street project in Sydney, europanel worked with Group GSA on a bespoke ceiling solution for a Financial Services client, where the architectural concept required a strong visual feature while still supporting acoustic performance. The result combined euroHUSH perforated acoustic panels with euroBLADE batten systems, creating a ceiling that balanced performance, detailing and the refined linear aesthetic required for the workspace.

A key strength of our approach is the ability to adapt materials, finishes and fabrication methods to suit project-specific conditions. For 180 George Street, the original veneer finish concept was reviewed, with a Polytec woodgrain laminate proposed as a more cost-effective and time-efficient alternative. This helped reduce fabrication lead times by removing the need for veneer pressing and clear finishing, while also providing greater consistency across prefinished panels and laminated battens.

Europanel also used 3D laser measurement to capture the space accurately and overlay the project conditions into CAD, supporting precise manufacture and installation of the ceiling elements.

The results on this project demonstrate how we can customise ceiling systems beyond standard panel formats, responding to height, geometry, services and architectural detailing. Within the project’s double-height void, europanel fabricated and installed tiered atrium modules designed to draw people toward the heart of the workspace and create a setting for gathering and exchanging ideas.

By delivering the ceiling as a prefabricated supply-and-install package, including project-specific shop drawings and service cut-outs during manufacture, we were able to help Group GSA achieve a highly resolved feature ceiling that combined design impact, acoustic function and practical constructability.
